Airtech – The independent R22 replacement specialist
MANAGEMENT / REPLACEMENT / COMPLIANCE

WHY REPLACING YOUR OLD AIR CONDITIONING FOR YOUR BUILDING COULD BE SELF FINANCING AND PAY YOU BACK THOUSANDS OF POUNDS... YEAR ON YEAR AND WITHIN 2–5 YEARS

It’s probable that if you or your clients operate buildings with air conditioning systems predating 2004, you are likely to be spending a lot more money than you need to…in fact; unfortunately it's akin to flushing your money down the toilet.

As with any air conditioning system there is a quantity of refrigerant that runs through the pipework. R22 refrigerant as you may know is in the process of being phased out of the industry due to legislation banning its future use.

Eventually all R22 air conditioning systems will have to be replaced, but this doesn't have to cost you or your clients the earth; and by tackling the problem now you can start saving money from day one.

Read through this document carefully, unlike many companies we are completely independent of manufacturers so you can be sure we will give you a solution that's best for you... not what's best for the manufacturer.

EXAMPLE CASE STUDY

The below example is based upon the replacement of just one 14.0 kW system.

EXAMPLE: Annual Running Cost Figures and Saving
The following example indicates annual running cost figures and highlights the cost savings in changing from R22 to R410A air conditioning.

Annual Running Cost @ 9p per kWh (Kilo Watt Hour of Energy):
1 x 14kW R22 Fixed Speed Air Conditioning Systems £1,522.00
1 x 14kW R410A Energy Efficient Inverter Drive Systems £918.00

Therefore: Run Cost Savings on 1 system if Replaced = £602.20 per Annum

Year Existing R22 Fixed Speed System Cumulative Annual Running Costs @ 9p per kWh Inverter R410A System Cumulative Annual Running Costs @ 9p per kWh + inintial installation cost (included in year 0)
0 £602.20 £4,549.00
1 £1,204.40 £5,467.00
2 £1,806.60 £6,385.00
3 £2,408.80 £7,303.00
4 £3,011.00 £8,221.00
5 £4,533.00 £9,139.00
RETURN ON INVESTMENT PAYBACK (years) Approximately 5 years

NB: Should your existing system require Service / Repair the cost saving / payback (years) would be reduced. A worse case scenario example would be an external condensing unit compressor failure with an average repair price of approximately £2,000.00.

THIS IS ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG HOWEVER!!

The above costs of the existing R22 system only actually account for running costs.

As existing R22 systems age, they require potentially more mechanical breakdown costs; which will not be covered under the equipment warranty.

Legislation dictates that from 01 January 2010 through to 31 December 2014, only reclaimed or recycled R22 will be allowed to be used as a service gas; resulting in an impending decrease in stock, increase in cost and uncertain availability of R22. From the end of December 2014, all R22, including reclaimed and recycled will be totally banned.

As with any kit, with age comes a greater likelihood of failure and then there is the impact this would have on the day to day business operations. When you consider all these factors, the above replacement strategy is a smart move to undertake. SAVING YOU OR YOUR CLIENT TIME AND MONEY

R22 IMPORTANT LEGISLATIVE INFORMATION

The government has set a target to reduce carbon emissions by more than 26% by 2020. In the UK alone buildings account for nearly 50% of our total energy consumption and within an average building 55% of energy is used by building services, heating / cooling, ventilation and hot water.

R22 LEGISLATION TIMELINE - WHY THIS AFFECTS YOU

JAN 01ST 2004
Ban imposed on the production and supply of new air conditioning systems operating on R22 refrigerant.

DEC 31ST 2009
Ban imposed on the supply and use of virgin R22 refrigerant for servicing of equipment.

DEC 31ST 2014
Ban on reclaimed or recycled R22 refrigerant for service use. Up until this date reclaimed or recycled R22 refrigerant is allowed for servicing of kit... and wil become increasingly more expensive as it is depleted.

DEC 2014
R22 systems will be classed as non serviceable.

DEC 31ST 2014
Complete ban on use of all R22 refrigerant.

The cost of R22 refrigerant is expected to quadruple in price year on year with stocks expected to run out by 2013.
